One of Canada’s laziest rivers opens for the season next month in B.C.

16 May 20262 Mins Read

Floating down one of B.C.’s lazy rivers is the ideal way to spend a hot summer’s day, and you don’t have to wait much longer before you can do just that. The Penticton River Channel is known as one of Canada’s laziest rivers, offering floaters the chance to leisurely journey seven kilometres between the scenic Okanagan and Skaha Lakes, all the while soaking up the sunshine.

If you don’t have your own tube, rentals are available via Coyote Cruises, including giant floating “islands” that can accommodate up to 12 people.

The lazy river starts on Riverside Drive and slowly drifts from Okanagan Lake down to Skaha Lake, though tubers have the option of stopping mid-way at Green Mountain Road.

Note that there is shuttle access to bring floaters back to the starting point after they’ve finished their Penticton Channel float. So, you don’t have to worry about transporting yourself or your floaties after your trek.

When does booking open for the 2026 season?

Ready to float your cares away? Coyote Cruises is bookable starting Saturday, June 27, with tube and bus passes available all spring and summer long, until Monday, Sept. 7.

Single tubes are priced at $20.19, while double tubes are $40.39 to rent, and quad islands are $106, all of which include the price of a shuttle. If you’re planning on bringing your own floats, the shuttle service costs $10 per person.

Mark your calendars, and let’s get those summer vibes flowing. Pun intended!

How to get there: Drive four to five hours from Vancouver via Coquihalla Highway (Highway 5) or the more scenic Highway 3.
