Time to take your winter walks to the next level! Scenic Caves Nature Adventures in The Blue Mountains is home to some all-season outdoor attractions, including one of Ontario’s longest suspension bridges.
Take in gorgeous snowy views of Georgian Bay while you venture across, and get ready for a little extra excitement as the bridge is only accessible this time of year by snowshoeing.
Getting to Scenic Caves Nature Adventures
To check out the suspension bridge, you’ll need to make your way to Scenic Caves Nature Adventures, which is about two hours by car if you’re driving from the Toronto area.
Once you arrive, you’ll have to pay an admission fee to the park which costs $33.50 per adult.
Access to the bridge is included with admission, with the last admission of the day in the winter sold at 3:30 p.m. During the week the bridge is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
The suspension bridge
“For 420 feet, you’re suspended high above the snowy forest floor with expansive views surrounding you 360 degrees. On a clear day, you can see 10,000 square kilometres – to the far side of Georgian Bay and beyond,” shares Scenic Caves Nature Adventures. Sounds pretty beautiful, right?
First up, embarking on the 1 km snowshoe hike to get to the bridge. There are equipment rentals available, with the trail described as moderate in difficulty.
The views are well worth it once you get there, though.
One thing to note is that the bridge will subtly sway if there is any wind and while this might be a little scary at first, Scenic Caves Nature Adventures assures visitors that “the bridge is designed to be flexible and bear the weight of snow, ice and many people. Because of its wireframe design, the suspension bridge is suitable for all ages and heights, with a clear view for everyone.” Phew.
