The standout looks on this year’s Oscars red carpet were refined, turning heads with fine jewellery (Hudson Williams), hot-red hues (Renate Reinsve), deep greens (Demi Moore) and sophisticated takes on delicate colour palettes (Chase Infiniti).

Who do you think should win at the 2026 Oscars?
Even styles exhibiting a lighter touch stuck out, such as Elle Fanning’s striking bridal-inspired gown. Those who truly rose above the fold, such as Teyana Taylor, opted for otherworldly pieces, favouring architectural tailoring that was both softly sculptural and starkly modern. On the whole, the evening’s ensembles honoured formalwear conventions while alluding to decadent runway designs.
Here are 13 looks that caught our attention.
Hudson Williams
Hudson Williams, star of Canada’s breakout hit series Heated Rivalry, looked polished yet laid back on the red carpet in an elegant, loosely tailored Balenciaga tuxedo. He accessorized it with a Bulgari bracelet shaped like a coiled snake wrapped gracefully around his wrist. His stylist, Anastasia Walker, revealed that he had been doing yoga in the look all day, thanks to its relaxed fit and hockey pants–inspired cut.

Li Jun Li
Sinners’ Li Jun Li stunned tonight in a red-hot Gaurav Gupta dress that looked as if it was crafted from strands of red licorice. The corset-like piece hugged the actor’s silhouette, recalling past designs by French fashion label Mugler. Li’s look added an unexpected, edgy spark to the Oscars red carpet.

Chase Infiniti
After being scouted following her appearance in Tyler, the Creator’s “Darling, I” video, Infiniti landed a role in one of the year’s Best Picture contenders. Tonight, she pulled the focus once again in a custom ruffled lavender-lilac Louis Vuitton dress and De Beers choker. Next up, she stars in The Handmaid’s Tale sequel, The Testaments.

Rose Byrne
Over the past year, Rose Byrne has favoured minimal Chanel looks, but her Oscars choice breaks that pattern. This Dior ensemble combines floral drama with sleek, strapless elegance, exemplifying what some fashion critics call “demi couture” – garments featuring haute couture techniques without the constraints of a strict fit. It’s refreshing to see Byrne step away from pared-back minimalism in a way that truly works.

Misty Copeland
Ballet legend Misty Copeland throws the best kind of shade in a David Koma suit jacket-tutu hybrid – a bold, artistic statement that feels like the chicest clapback to Timothée Chalamet’s dismissive comments about ballet and opera (prior to that, she had been asked to participate in Marty Supreme’s marketing campaign).

Jacob Elordi
Jacob Elordi’s towering presence on the red carpet was amplified by Bottega Veneta’s tailoring. His relaxed three-piece suit presented a sharp contrast to his character in Frankenstein, for which he endured more than 10 hours in prosthetics (42 pieces in total) each day to transform his striking good looks.

Renate Reinsve
Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve, nominated for Best Actress for Sentimental Value, is this year’s rising fashion star. After turning heads in a cut-out black evening dress by Louis Vuitton at the BAFTAs and a strapless gold gown at the Golden Globes by the same house, she rose to the occasion with a simple crimson look, also by the French fashion label. What makes the ensemble interesting is its lack of punchy jewels.

Audrey Nuna
The global impact of KPop Demon Hunters – Netflix’s most-watched film of all time – spilled onto the red carpet once again. Singer-rapper Audrey Nuna eclipsed the constellation of boldface names in a shimmering Thom Browne ensemble that looks as if it’s been dipped in 24K gold. The appearance reinforces Nuna’s connection to Browne, who was among the first designers to work with her grandfather, a clothing manufacturer.

Odessa A’zion
Marty Supreme’s Odessa A’zion – who styled herself tonight, doing her own hair and makeup as well – is not only a rare phenomenon on the red carpet but a standout in the Oscar-nominated film. She cemented her status as a fashion star tonight in Valentino. The youthful, cool-girl take on formalwear pairs velvet with Pandora jewellery, accented by floral motifs and sparkling stones.

Jessie Buckley
In Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Polonius declares, “Costly thy habit as thy purse can buy, but not expressed in fancy; rich, not gaudy” (translation: dress well, not tacky). That advice applies perfectly to Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley, who wore the minimalist red trend tonight with a scarlet and bubblegum-pink dress. Created by Matthieu Blazy, the Grace Kelly-inspired gown commanded attention on the red carpet.

Demi Moore
Canadian stylist Brad Goreski did it again, styling Demi Moore in a feathery green Gucci ensemble that evokes Alexander McQueen’s most dramatic looks. Goreski’s collaboration with Moore has taken the duo to Paris and Milan for fashion month each season to take in the top runways and mingle with the leading figures in couture.

Elle Fanning
Calling Givenchy designer Sarah Burton “a dear friend” on the red carpet, Elle Fanning beamed in one of her pal’s creations. Adorned with wisteria motifs and paired with archival Cartier jewels from 1903, the Sentimental Value star’s bridal-inspired look was one of the evening’s most striking.

Teyana Taylor
Teyana Taylor sat front row at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week show a few weeks ago, so the choice to wear an epic white and black feathered gown by the label – one that feels like both an homage to Bob Mackie’s archival designs and Matthieu Blazy’s futuristic vision – felt inevitable. The Best Supporting Actress nominee is on a hot streak: her next major role is in crime thriller The Smack alongside Marisa Tomei, Kathy Bates and Casey Affleck.

Joe Alwyn
Hamnet’s Joe Alwyn leaned into dandyism on the red carpet, topping his head-to-toe Valentino look with a floppy, oversized silk ribbon bow tie. The details don’t stop there: a Chaumet brooch and Hublot watch add just the right amount of high jewellery polish.
