Review: The Dyson Supersonic travel hairdryer packs a one-two punch | Canada Voices

For many travellers, hairdryers pose a packing conundrum: Do they sacrifice the luggage space for, say, another pair of shoes? Or cram in a blowdryer they can trust to style their mane? Savvy travellers know that unless one is booked into a five-star hotel (that likely stocks a full-size Dyson dryer) the dryer waiting in the bathroom will most likely disappoint.

That may be why Dyson – the luxury brand that has fine-tuned the most mundane of appliances – has stepped into the travel game with a lighter, cheaper version of its popular Supersonic dryer.

Released in April, the new lighter version of the Supersonic is 32 per cent smaller. It comes in one colour – light pink – and with one attachment to concentrate air flow. It should also come with a bag to contain its thick, long cord but doesn’t. The travel sized Supersonic works with multiple country’s voltage requirements (no converter required) and is priced at $400 CAD. While that price tag may be as much as some of Toronto’s cheaper hotel rooms, it’s still notably less than the full-sized version, which starts at $600 CAD.

While the smaller Supersonic has two heat and air-speed settings instead of three, it’s just as powerful. Which is something I appreciated after exploring rainy Fiordland National Park in New Zealand. The travel Supersonic does wonders performing its primary job (even in tiny AirBnb bathrooms), but what I really appreciated was a little off-book use drying out soggy socks and wet pants after long days exploring temperate rainforests.

Dyson Supersonic Travel, $399.00, dyson.ca
