The fantasy adventure anime series Shangri-La Frontier is coming to Netflix US on May 1, 2026.

April and May are proving to be incredibly bountiful to anime fans on Netflix, as another licensed anime is making its way to Netflix at the start of May, Shangri-La Frontier. The popular anime series was previously exclusive to Crunchyroll, but the first season will be available on Netflix US for the first time on May 1, 2026.
Shangri-La Frontier is a Japanese adventure fantasy anime series produced by C2C and directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka. The anime is written by Kazuyuki Fudesayu, who has adapted it from the novel and manga of the same name by author Katarina. The manga began its serialization in July 2020, and 26 volumes have been published so far. Currently, 16 million copies of the manga are in circulation. The anime debuted in October 2023 and was simulcast on Crunchyroll.
High schooler Rakurou Hizutome has a passion for flawed games, ones unbalanced thanks to bugs that make them borderline unplayable. When the game Shangri-La Frontier, a virtual reality game, is recommended to him, he begins by selling all the starting gear for extra cash. However, it isn’t long before he realizes the extent of his mistake and the challenge the game presents. As he progresses, it’s not long before his eccentric playstyle grabs the game by storm.
