Sofitel London St James Completes Suite Renovation by Pierre-Yves Rochon

Sofitel London St James has completed a multi-phase transformation of its six signature suites with the official launch of Suite 70 and the Opera Suite. The renovation was led by Paris-based interior architecture studio Pierre-Yves Rochon. Four Prestige Suites are now open and available to book, and the two flagship suites, Suite 70 and the Opera Suite, have officially debuted.

Suite 70 is designed as a tribute to the creative and cultural energy of the 1970s, featuring a decorative approach inspired by the era’s music, stage design, and graphic aesthetic. The color palette includes orange, deep green, brown, black, and white in bold contrasts. Bespoke elements include bedside tables that extend into dressing tables, carpets and rugs by Edition 169, and bathroom features created with Devon & Devon, such as the My Water Love vanity. Pierre Paulin furniture is used throughout the suite. Décor and textiles were developed with Gallery B, including custom wallcoverings and fabrics. The suite features an Experience Bar designed as a concert trunk with inner doors lined with vinyl records, wall art and accessories inspired by 1970s concert posters and album covers, a vintage-style record player and a saxophone.

The Opera Suite offers an elegant and softened interpretation of the 1970s. The suite measures 109 square meters and overlooks Waterloo Place. The palette includes nude, pale pink, taupe, camel, and ivory, with red accents. Furniture includes armchairs by Pierre Paulin and pieces by Knoll, such as the Tulip chair. A pale pink suede headboard, inspired by 1970s sculptural forms, is featured alongside a sculptural in-room bar. The suite also includes bespoke furniture, a suspended library, and a mirror reintegrated into the design.

Each renovated suite features a bespoke art collection curated by VISTO, with works by emerging and established artists reflecting London in the 1970s and the property’s French heritage.

The reimagining of Sofitel London St James is part of a multi-year investment program across Sofitel’s flagship properties worldwide. Recent completions include Sofitel New York and Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile in North America, and Sofitel Sydney Wentworth in Australia. Other renovations and openings over the past 18 months include Sofitel Riyadh Hotel & Convention Centre, Sofitel Cairo Downtown Nile, and Sofitel Cotonou Marina Hotel & Spa. Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Ipanema is scheduled to reopen in late 2026.
