The BC SPCA is hiring counsellors to work at its summer day camps

1 April 20262 Mins Read

The BC SPCA is hiring camp counsellors to work at its summer day camps, so if you’re looking for a summer gig and love working with children and animals, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Camp counsellors lead groups of youth (ages six to 14) at day camps across the province through educational, fun, and inclusive experiences, using age-appropriate materials developed by the BC SPCA Humane Education Team. Part of the curriculum includes animal care and welfare topics, such as how to care for companion or farm animals, and what to do in the presence of wild animals.

Currently, the BC SPCA is hiring three camp counsellors at each B.C. camp, so make sure to get your applications in sooner rather than later if you’re interested.

Specific responsibilities include leading campers in approved activities, facilitating virtual camps, and ensuring the safety and health of all the campers.

Who can apply?

Ready to hit apply? You’ll need a high school diploma or equivalent, a clean background check, experience working as part of a team, and a positive attitude to get started. According to the job posting, this role is paid $22 an hour.

If you have a little bit more demonstrated experience working as a leader or teacher, and possess a valid emergency first aid certificate, you can apply for one of the senior camp counsellor positions.

The BC SPCA is hiring one senior camp counsellor at each of its day camps, including in Vancouver, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Surrey, Victoria, Maple Ridge, and more.

According to the posting, camp counsellors at the senior level make $24 an hour.

All in all, the BC SPCA employs over 600 people across the province, including its provincial office in Vancouver. If you’re in search of a permanent full or part-time job opportunity, you can take a look at the career page for more openings.

Good luck!
