The best local shops in Calgary to find Mother’s Day gifts

28 April 20263 Mins Read

Mother’s Day has a way of sneaking up every single year, and somehow, flowers from the grocery store at the last minute never feel like enough. If you’re looking to pick up something a little more thoughtful this year, Calgary has no shortage of local shops that will make gift shopping way easier.

Whether she loves fashion, home decor, or a good little self-care moment, we’ve put together a list of the best local shops in the city that will help your gift feel a little less basic.

Let’s get into it!

If your mom loves fragrances, candles, or anything cozy, Milk Jar Candle Co. is one of those spots that makes gift shopping feel way too easy. I’m personally obsessed with its candles, and somehow every visit ends with wanting to take home five more.

This year, Milk Jar Candle Co. is hosting Mother’s Day workshops, which honestly feel like such a cute idea if you want to gift an experience rather than a bouquet.

Where: 1450 28th St. NE #7, Calgary, Alta.

This is a really great option if your mom loves fashion, accessories, or those little things she would never buy for herself but absolutely should.

This year, 27 Boutique made Mother’s Day shopping way easier with a curated gift box filled with some of its best-selling items, and honestly, the best part is that there is no size guessing involved.

Where: 506 12th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

For the moms who love supporting local and finding things no one else has, Marketspot is such a solid Mother’s Day stop. It brings together local artists, makers, and small businesses all in one place. You can find everything from jewellery and candles to art and adorable home pieces.

Marketspot is also hosting Mother’s Day Market at the CORE Shopping Centre from May 6 to 8, giving you even more chances to find something meaningful for Mom.

Where: 324 8th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

Shelf Life Books is the perfect Mother’s Day stop if your mom is a reader or loves a good cozy browse. It’s an independent bookstore, Calgary’s Beltline, filled with a mix of popular reads, hidden gems, and books you won’t typically find in big chain stores, making it a great place to find something a little more thoughtful and personal.

Where: 1302 4th St. SW #100, Calgary, Alta.

Looking for something a little more elevated? Valley Boutique and Home is a locally curated shop in northwest Calgary that combines home decor, fashion, accessories, and gifts in one space, making it effortless to put together Mother’s Day gifts.

Where: #300-8435 Bowfort Rd., Calgary, Alta.

At the end of the day, Mother’s Day is not about finding the “perfect” gift; it’s about finding something a little more thoughtful than usual. Luckily, Calgary has no shortage of local spots that make that part easy.

We hope this helped you narrow down a few local spots and take some of the stress out of Mother’s Day shopping this year.
