The Calgary Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (April 14)

14 April 20263 Mins Read

Welcome back to the Calgary group chat, your weekly catch-up on what’s happening around the city and what people are actually talking about right now.

There’s always something going on, whether it’s a new spot, a trend, or something that feels very Calgary.

So instead of trying to keep up with everything, we’ve pulled together a few highlights that are worth your attention this week.

Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen returns to Earth following the Artemis II space mission

Do you remember our 2023 Calgary Stampede Marshall?

Because Jeremy Hansen just casually went to the moon and back.

After a 10-day Artemis II mission orbiting the moon, the Canadian astronaut has officially returned to Earth. Honestly, it’s surreal knowing someone front and centre in Calgary not that long ago just did something like that. He became the first Canadian to travel that far into space as part of an international crew on a mission that will pave the way for future lunar landings.

Calgary is getting its very own hot dog festival

You got that dog in you?

Calgary’s first-ever hot dog festival, Dog Days, is officially happening, and yes, it’s just as fun as it sounds.

From May 23 to June 6, 2026, participating restaurants across the city will serve classic and creative hot dogs, all in support of a good cause. For every festival hot dog sold, $1 will be donated to the Pet Access League Society (PALS), so you can feel good about going back for seconds… or thirds.

Spring market season is calling

The Saskatoon Farm Spring Market is back on April 26 and 27, and it is basically your excuse to spend a full day outside pretending winter never happened.

There are over 80 vendors, live music, food, a petting zoo, and many family-friendly activities throughout the farm. And if you’re looking to get some cute Instagram photos, this is definitely the place to do it. The farm is full of scenic spots, from the greenhouse to the outdoor market areas, making it an easy place to capture spring content.

80 days until Stampede!

Stampede is getting closer, and I am so excited about this one.

It runs from July 2 to July 10 and is always one of the best times of the year in Calgary. But let’s be real, I am mostly waiting for the food lineups to drop because that’s where things always get a little wild in the best way.

Safe to say, I am ready.

It’s your last chance to catch the Calgary Flames this season

Hockey season always seems to fly by, and suddenly, we are at the point where things are wrapping up.

There is always something about a late-season game that hits different. The energy is still high, but it also feels like everyone is just soaking it in a little more. If you want to squeeze in one more game before the season ends, now’s your chance.

That’s a wrap on this week’s Calgary group chat. A little bit of everything is happening in the city right now, and hopefully, something here has made it onto your plans.

We will be back next week with more updates, more plans, and more reasons to leave the house.

Talk soon!
