Calgary got a serious taste of the summer heat this past weekend, with temperatures reaching a high of 37°C on Saturday. Luckily, the city is getting a bit of a break this week, with cooler temperatures making it much easier to actually enjoy being outside. With the final stretch of summer officially here, it’s time to stop putting off those outdoor plans and make the most of the season before fall approaches.
Calgary’s Bow River just got a little more lively
River Hall has returned to the city for another season of summer programming. The free pop-up space has a packed schedule of events and activities, such as Pilates sessions by the river, live music, markets, and more. The space is open from Thursday to Sunday every week until the end of September, and it’s a great option if you’re looking for something to do after work or want a spot to hang out with friends, especially when you can catch the sunset along the Bow River while you’re there.
One of Alberta’s sweetest summer activities is back
Saskatoon berry season is here, which means it’s time to put your berry picking skills to the test. If you know where to look, you can find wild saskatoon berries around Calgary and the nearby areas, although finding a good patch is half the challenge. If you’re looking for a guaranteed berry haul, The Saskatoon Farm just outside the city is your best bet. Just try not to eat the entire bucket before you make it home!
A legendary drag queen is making her way to Calgary this fall
If you’re a fan of drag, mark your calendar because a major name is making their way to Calgary for Pride month. Trixie Mattel is headlining Pride on the Island at Prince’s Island Park, where she’ll bring her iconic personality and a DJ set to the celebration. The event will be hosted by Calgary’s own Karla Marx, who will bring some local flair to the lineup. So if dancing by the river while listening to Trixie Mattel sounds like your kind of celebration, you know where to be.
Calgary is getting a festival entirely dedicated to pickles this month
Pickle lovers, your time has officially arrived. Picklefest is coming to Calgary with a full day dedicated to the crunchy, tangy snack that people either love or can’t stand. The festival will feature more than 40 vendors, pickle-inspired food and drinks, live entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to try something new.
