The Edmonton Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (Aug. 4)

4 August 20264 Mins Read

Welcome to Edmonton’s group chat, your weekly roundup of what’s trending, what’s new, and what’s worth talking about. Here, we can get the hottest events and news right to your phone and group chat without any issues. If your friends are talking about it, you’re going to find everything you need to know right in this article.

The city has been an endless cascade of storms and festivals, with the summer keeping the energy alive in Edmonton.

Without further ado, we’ve rounded up everything to keep you and your group chat in the know this week. We definitely don’t want to keep you waiting, so let’s jump straight into the details.

What’s trending, Edmonton?

West Edmonton Mall’s Victoria’s Secret and PINK got a whole new upgrade

With an onslaught of new stores coming into the mall, there’s also been some spots getting a renovation. Of course, this includes Victoria’s Secret.

Found on Level One, Phase III, the new store layout features bright lighting, soft pink hues, and a delicate elegance you haven’t seen from them before. Instead of a dark, moody interior, Victoria’s Secret is back open with a whole new vibe that’s really leaning into the femininity of it all.

We can finally see a weekend forecast of sunshine… in a way

According to Weather Canada, this weekend is going to break the pattern of windy storms. There’s a forecast for a high of 25°C on Friday, and there’s even going to be the same 25°C high on Saturday as well.

For those who’ve been enjoying the rain, you’ll be happy to know there’ll also be a 60 per cent chance of rain beginning Saturday night and extending into Monday.

With a perfectly balanced three days, there’s opportunity for Friday night fun outside and a cozy Sunday indoors.

There’s a new, unique half-marathon coming to Edmonton soon

If you aren’t familiar, the Hoagie Half is a half-marathon relay race that began last year in Vancouver. This is for all the runners, foodies, fun-seekers, and anyone seeking a thrilling, unique experience. Trust us when we tell you, you’ve never seen anything like this in Edmonton before.

This Edmonton iteration of the race was just announced. If you’re up for the challenge, now is the time to start creating a team. It’s going to be held this upcoming Sept. 19, so while there is still time to plan, it’s also time to set it in motion.

Speaking of announcements… Edmonton can expect medieval vibes coming its way

Next year, thanks to North of Ordinary Events, Edmonton can anticipate the first local Renaissance faire to take over the city. This means swinging swords, saving princesses, and a whole bunch of dressing up in the spirit of the past.

Keep your eyes out for any more medieval messages. While the Edmonton Ren Faire was just unofficially announced, there should be more details coming out soon.

Edmonton Folk Fest is finally happening this weekend!

Since 1980, the Edmonton Folk Fest has become a staple in the community, supporting folk music both locally and globally. The festival is a four-day, fun-filled, affordable experience which highlights incredible artists from around the world and puts a spotlight on local food and sales vendors.

This weekend marks the festival for this year, and with names like Arrested Development, Cat Power, and SYML, you’re guaranteed to groove, jive, and have a good time.

If you’re ready to snag your spot on the hill this year, we’ve already rounded up all the important details for you. Good luck, and here’s to celebrating this age-old Edmonton tradition.
