The Further Adventures collection confirmed by Marvel

Marvel is kicking it back to the 1980s with an upcoming hardcover collection of Indiana Jones comics, the publisher announced in a news release on Wednesday. Spread across two “leatherette” volumes, Indiana Jones: The Further Adventures will collect movie-to-comic adaptations as well as a separate original series of the archaeologist’s adventures.

In the ’80s, Marvel published comic adaptations of each of the first three Indy films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Marvel also created a monthly series for the character, The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones. That series featured characters from the movies as well as new faces in new stories. The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones ran for 34 issues from 1983 to 1986.

Marvel’s Indiana Jones comics were later reprinted by publisher Dark Horse across three omnibuses, though they’ve since become a challenge to find for a reasonable price. As of this writing, the omnibuses are listed on Amazon by resellers for anywhere from $199.99 to $799.99. Tracking down the original comics on eBay isn’t much easier or cheaper, as full lots of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones are listed for $150 and $199.

Heavy hitters like John Buscema, John Byrne, David Michelinie, Dennis O’Neil, and Walt Simonson all worked on the stories in the collection. The two-volume set will feature leatherette binding, debossed covers, and ribbon bookmarks. No fedora is included, unfortunately.

Each book will retail for $75, and both volumes will be released Sept. 29.
