The Hotel Marketer’s Weekly AI Checklist (No Buzzwords)

1 September 20266 Mins Read

In Brief: A weekly checklist outlines practical steps for hotel marketers to implement artificial intelligence in daily operations, emphasizing actionable tasks such as content personalization, automated guest communications, and performance analysis to enhance marketing effectiveness without relying on industry jargon.

AI conversations often swing between highly technical and too vague to act on. Hotel marketers leave the webinar or conference session knowing AI matters, but still wondering what to actually do next.

That’s why AI efforts can stall before they gain traction.

Most teams don’t need another platform or project. They need practical ways to use AI to improve the marketing work already on their plate.

The good news is that the most useful AI habits are often simple: check visibility, look for content gaps, review accuracy, and turn insights into action.

With that in mind, we’ve created a weekly AI checklist built specifically for hotel marketers:

Monday: Check what AI is saying about your hotel

Most hotels regularly review website traffic, campaign performance, and search rankings. Far fewer take the time to understand how AI platforms are actually describing their property.

Start your week by asking a simple question: if a traveler asked AI about your hotel today, what would it say?

Look beyond whether you’re mentioned. Pay attention to how your property is described. Are your key amenities being highlighted? Does the response accurately reflect your guest experience? Is the information current and aligned with how you want your hotel positioned?

The goal isn’t to monitor AI obsessively. It’s to identify major gaps before they begin influencing traveler decisions.

Tuesday: Review missed opportunities

One of the most valuable insights AI can provide isn’t where you’re being mentioned. It’s where you’re missing.

Think about the experiences, audiences, and travel occasions your hotel should logically own. Family vacations. Wellness retreats. Golf getaways. Weddings. Pet-friendly stays. Local attractions. Every property has categories where it should be part of the conversation.

Take time to review where competitors are being recommended instead. If your hotel isn’t appearing for experiences you’re well positioned to serve, you’ve likely uncovered a visibility gap worth investigating. Those missed mentions often reveal opportunities that traditional SEO reporting simply can’t.

Wednesday: Refresh one important page

Most hotel websites contain pages that quietly age over time. Information becomes outdated, messaging loses relevance, and opportunities to strengthen content are missed simply because teams are busy.

That’s why it’s worth choosing one important page each week and improving it. Maybe it’s a room page, a wedding landing page, a dining page, or a local attractions guide. Review the content, tighten the messaging, update anything that’s outdated, and look for opportunities to better communicate the experiences that make your property unique.

If you’re using AI-assisted content tools, this is also a great opportunity to create stronger drafts, brainstorm new content angles, or identify areas where key information is missing. Small improvements made consistently can have a significant impact over time.

Thursday: Learn from your competitors

Competitive analysis has traditionally focused on rankings, traffic, and website performance. AI introduces another perspective that’s often far more revealing.

Spend a few minutes comparing how AI describes your competitors versus your own property. What kinds of experiences are they associated with? Which audiences seem to trigger recommendations? What themes appear consistently in descriptions about their hotel?

The objective isn’t to copy what they’re doing. It’s to understand what AI understands about them that it may not yet understand about you. Those differences often reveal gaps in positioning, messaging, or content that can be addressed through future marketing efforts.

Sometimes the fastest path to improving visibility is understanding why someone else is being recommended first.

Friday: Turn insights into action

This is where many teams fall short.

They gather insights, review dashboards, identify opportunities, and then move on to the next task. The information is valuable, but it never turns into meaningful action.

Before you wrap up the week, choose one thing to do with what you’ve learned. Maybe it’s updating content on an important page. Maybe it’s correcting inaccurate information. Maybe it’s creating new content around a visibility gap or refining how a particular experience is described on your site.

The action itself doesn’t have to be large. What matters is building momentum. Over time, consistent small improvements tend to produce far better results than occasional large initiatives.

Consistency beats complexity

One of the biggest misconceptions about AI is that adoption requires a complete transformation. In reality, the hotels seeing the most value are often doing something much simpler. They’re building repeatable habits, improving workflows incrementally, and using AI to support work that’s already happening.

That’s why consistency matters more than complexity.

A straightforward process repeated every week will almost always create more value than constantly chasing new tools, trends, or techniques. AI works best when it’s woven into your marketing workflow, not layered on top of it.
