Coming to Netflix in Fall 2026 is a brand-new documentary featuring the recently knighted Sir Idris Elba, His Majesty King Charles III, and the impact of The King’s Trust, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.

First launched in 1976, the King’s Trust (formerly the Prince’s Trust) is a charity founded by King Charles III that supports vulnerable young people aged 11 to 30, aiding those with a range of difficulties, including education, homelessness, unemployment, disabilities, and the law.

A former recipient of the King’s Trust grant is Sir Idris Elba, one of the most prolific and well-known British actors of his generation, having starred in dozens of films and television shows such as Luther, the MCU, Zootopia, Star Trek, Fast & Furious, The Wire, Sonic the Hedgehog, and many more. At the age of 18, Sir Idris received a £1,500 grant to study at the National Youth Music Theatre, which he credits with launching his career.

“The King’s Trust gave me an opportunity that changed my life. At a time when I didn’t have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support — including financial help — that helped me take those first steps to advance my career. – Sir Idris Elba

Idris Elba is teaming up with his majesty, King Charles III, for a documentary highlighting the King’s Trust and the important role it has played in helping young people for the past 50 years.

Around the world, millions are still waiting for that one door to open. This documentary is about shining a light on what’s possible when it does — and why the work of The King’s Trust remains so important.” – Sir Idris Elba

The King, His Trust (WT) was announced in June 2025 and is directed by Ashley Francis-Roy, the Bafta Award-winning filmmaker of To Catch a Copper. They also directed documentaries such as The Greatest Show Never Made, Santa Claus: The Serial Killer, and Max Clifford: The Fall of a Tabloid King. Sir Idri’s production company, 22 Summers, which he founded with Diene Petterle, is producing the doc.

We have a confirmed release window for the documentary: Fall 2026.

Other famous recipients of The King’s Trust are:

  • David Oyelowo (British actor).
  • Thomas Stogdon (British filmmaker).
  • Charlotte Mensah (famous British hairstylist).
  • Festus Akinbusoye (Conservative Party politician and former Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner).
  • Baron Rees of Easton (Labor Party politician).
  • Steve Frayne, aka Dynamo (magician).
  • DJ Naughty Boy (musician).
  • Muse (British rock band).
