The Magician’s Nephew as Filming Reportedly Wraps

It’s been a while since we’ve checked in on Narnia, and there have been a few major updates. Greta Gerwig’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew has wrapped filming, and there are a few new cast additions, according to reports from NarniaWeb.

Unlike the Chronicles of Narnia movies, which began with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, the sixth novel published but the first novel in the series chronologically. Of course, the most popular story, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, was the first book published, but the second in the series’ internal chronology.

The Magician’s Nephew serves as an origin story for the creation of Narnia, and introduces Jadis, aka the White Witch. We follow kids Digory and Polly, who use magic rings to travel to The Wood Between the Worlds, a place containing portals to other, fantastical realms. After crossing paths with the White Witch, who finds herself in London, it ultimately leads to the foundations of Narnia. The book establishes the portal fantasy aspect of the series, providing clarity about the anachronistic aspects of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe — notably explaining how the lamp was planted within the snowy Narnia landscape.

Netflix acquired the rights to C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia back in 2018 under a multi-year deal to adapt the entire series. Later down the line, filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Barbie, Little Women) joined the project as the director of The Magician’s Nephew. She’s signed on to helm at least two movies.

Netflix’s Narnia Returns To Public Filming In London Ahead Of 2026 ReleaseNetflix’s Narnia Returns To Public Filming In London Ahead Of 2026 Release

Filming on The Magician’s Nephew commenced in August 2025 in England. It officially wrapped in January 2026 after six months of filming. That’s a little earlier than we had been expecting, with sources initially expecting a wrap in mid-February. We last caught the movie filming in public back in mid-January.

NarniaWeb, the kings of tracking all-things Narnia, have been on a tear as of late, confirming that WetaFX (Avatar, Planet of the Apes) is handling VFX and covering the viral comments (controversial) by Oscar-nominated editor Andrew Weisblum, who could be spotted from our original snaps from filming last Summer.

The film is set for theatrical release on November 26, 2026. It will then land on Netflix on Christmas Day.

Who has been cast in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew?

Below are the list of stars we know appear in The Magician’s Nephew, as well as the roles they are playing.

  • Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Emily) as Queen Jadis
  • David McKenna (Lord of the Flies) as Digory Kirke
  • Beatrice Campbell as Polly Plummer
  • Daniel Craig (James Bond, Knives Out) as Uncle Andrew
  • Carey Mulligan (Promising Young Woman, The Great Gatsby) as Mabel Kirke
  • Tom Bonington (Andor, Maleficent) as Mr. Potts

It’s worth noting that, despite production wrapping, Netflix has not yet officially confirmed any cast members for the adaptation, although it did finally acknowledge the project during Next on Netflix 2026.

New Narnia cast additions

As first reported by NarniaWeb, the movie has added a trio of additional stars to its roster. Each of these new additions has a proven track record at Netflix, having appeared in projects such as Enola Holmes and The Crown. They are listed below:

  • Susan Wokoma (Enola Holmes) as TBA
  • Gerard Monaco (3 Body Problem) as TBA
  • James Murray (The Crown)  as TBA

Not to be completely outdone, we can also confirm that Samantha Spiro (Upcoming Ringo Starr Biopic, One Life) will provide a voice-over for one of the animated beavers in the movie. Samuel Marshall-Blake (Last Train to Christmas) is another name we’ve seen attached to the movie’s working title, Ordinary Times.
