The Sims 4’s new roadmap might finally fix Sims autonomy soon

25 February 20262 Mins Read

Bugs and The Sims 4 are almost synonymous with each other at this point — it’s par for the course for a game that’s been around over a decade and received countless updates and DLC. A new EA announcement shows what 2026 has in store for an ongoing Sims 4 bug-fixing plan, laying out improvements planned for throughout the year. Arguably one of the most noteworthy changes on the list involves Sim autonomy, with an incoming fix designed to help Sims make better — and less annoying — choices.

The Sims 4 team has recently begun a concerted effort to address player concerns, introducing a quality of life roadmap last September. Developers turned to the bug report section of the EA forums and asked the community for their help in tackling the most pressing issues that needed fixing within the game. An update last November addressed over 150 bugs chosen by the community, which did make considerable improvements, though The Sims 4 is still a long way from running flawlessly.

One of the biggest things players have latched onto in the latest roadmap is the changes planned for Sim autonomy. One user on X wrote that over half their mods relate to fixing Sim autonomy, “so if they get this shit under control i’ll genuinely be impressed.” Sim autonomy is notoriously confusing and irritating for players — Sims will randomly do push-ups, get endless glasses of water, or pull out bags of trash and hold them like a beloved pet.

The improvements listed include Sims choosing inappropriate locations for actions, obsessions with objects, and NPCs endlessly butting into conversations. In addition, changes are coming to infant and caregiver autonomy (perhaps they’ll stop leaving babies alone for hours at a time), and the issues that surround Sims managing to actually sit down and eat a meal together instead of running off. All changes except for dining behaviors are slated for March through August, then meal fixes will follow between September and December.

The first of many patches is currently being tested, and is planned for release sometime in March. It will include approximately 55 bug fixes, including what EA says are seven out of 10 of the top issues reported by players. If these problems with autonomy are actually solved over the course of the coming year, The Sims 4 gameplay could look drastically different by 2027.
