The Witcher 3 Online is a thing now thanks to new multiplayer mod

If you needed an excuse to revisit The Witcher 3 before hype starts for The Witcher 4 in earnest — well, reportedly, CD Projekt Red has you covered. There is increasing evidence that the developer will release a surprise third expansion for the game this year that will set up its sequel.

But if you needed an excuse to revisit The Witcher 3 before there’s an official excuse to revisit The Witcher 3, there’s now a mod which turns this huge, decade-old role-playing game into an online multiplayer game.

Witcher Online, a mod by rejuvenate, allows you to join servers to play the game with friends. Everyone’s Geralt, of course, but there’s support for the Custom Player Characters mod, so players can all edit and show off their distinctive looks. The mod also supports the Chill Out mod for relaxing together in taverns. There’s chat and emotes, of course.

“The focus of this mod is to allow you to see other players on their adventure exploring throughout the world,” rejuvenate says. It’s possible to play through The Witcher 3‘s full storyline in the Witcher Online mod, and even to combat monsters together with other players.

It sounds like it’s going to be a big year for The Witcher 3, then, 11 years on from its release. And what better way to kick it off than chilling with all the other Geralts?
