Theatre Calgary has announced its 2026-27 lineup, including new productions of the musical Little Shop of Horrors and Sam Shepard’s drama True West.

“This season invites our audiences to see themselves reflected onstage: in the laughter, fractures, reunions, and redemptions that define what it means to belong,” says artistic director Stafford Arima. “At the heart of every season is one powerful throughline. This year it happens to be family — the ones who raise us, the ones who challenge us, the ones we choose, and the ones we hold onto even when the world around us shifts in unimaginable ways.”

Subscription sales are live on Theatre Calgary’s website, with single tickets to become available in late June.

This year’s lineup of full productions is listed below.

First Métis Man of Odesa

Written and performed by Matthew MacKenzie and Mariya Khomutova
Directed by Lianna Makuch
September 8 to 27, 2026 in the Martha Cohen Theatre

This widely touring two-person play unfolds against the twin backdrops of the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Matthew MacKenzie and Mariya Khomutova perform the piece themselves, embodying their real-life story of love, separation, and war.

Little Shop of Horrors

Written by Howard Ashman (book/lyrics) and Alan Menken (music)
Directed and choreographed by Tracey Flye
Music directed by David Terriault
September 29 to October 25, 2026 in the Max Bell Theatre

In this cult-favourite musical, timid shop assistant Seymour discovers a mysterious plant with a taste for blood. As the plant grows, so too do the stakes, setting up a darkly comic tale about the price of getting what you wish for.

A Christmas Carol

Adapted by Geoffrey Simon Brown
Directed by Stafford Arima
November 24 to December 27, 2026 in the Max Bell Theatre

Geoffrey Simon Brown’s version of the Dickens classic about Scrooge and Christmas’ three ghosts returns to Theatre Calgary, continuing a treasured holiday tradition.

True West

Written by Sam Shepard
Directed by Michael Shamata
February 2 to February 21, 2027 in the Max Bell Theatre

This modern classic explores the fragile promise of the American dream. When disciplined screenwriter Austin’s work retreat is interrupted by his estranged brother Lee, a drifter and petty thief, their reunion ignites a volatile struggle for control. The production will star real-life brothers Joe Perry and Stafford Perry.

Sense & Sensibility

Presented in partnership with the Citadel Theatre
Adapted by Jessica B. Hill and Daryl Cloran
Directed by Daryl Cloran
March 30 to April 25, 2027 in the Max Bell Theatre

Jane Austen’s novel hits the Theatre Calgary stage for the first time. When the Dashwood sisters are left with little to their name, sensible Elinor and passionate Marianne must navigate the complicated world of society, reputation, and courtship — each guided by her own heart and instincts.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong

Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields
Directed by Andrew MacDonald-Smith
March 30 to April 25, 2027 in the Max Bell Theatre

From the creators of The Play That Goes Wrong comes an even bigger theatrical catastrophe. This time, the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society takes flight with a complex production of Peter Pan. Or attempts to.
