These Are Officially The World’s Best Airlines In 2026, Canada Reviews

23 March 20263 Mins Read

Every January, online guide AirlineRatings.com releases a comprehensive ranking of the world’s safest airlines, which evaluates operators on stuff like pilot training, fleet age and turbulence prevention. But safety isn’t the only thing that matters – cue the World’s Best Airline Awards, the 2026 edition of which has just been released by the guide.

The list ranks the top all-round carriers across the low-cost, hybrid and full-service categories.

The airlines are selected by the platform’s team, based on measurable onboard criteria relating to the in-flight product and passenger experience, rather than the opinions of travellers.

So, which airlines came out on top? Well, in the low-cost category, HK Express has topped the ranking for the very first time. Sure, the carrier doesn’t offer the same perks that lots of its budget counterparts do (we’re talking no WiFi or in-flight entertainment), but where it shines, according to the research, is the quality of its cabin crew and the popular, authentic Hong Kong-style menu.

As for the hybrid airline category (airlines that offer a combination of low-cost and full-service experiences depending on how far you’re flying), Lufthansa stole the show. Its short-haul flights offer buy-on-board food service. complimentary streaming access and WiFi (oh, and a cheeky branded chocolate bar), while its full-service routes offer ‘a comfortable, full-service product in economy and a luxury experience in business class’, according to CEO of AirlineRatings.com Sharon Petersen.

Lastly, Qatar Airways tops the list for full-service airlines yet again, thanks to what was described as a ‘superior economy class product and award-winning business class’. It’s not at all surprising, given that Qatar Airways also claimed a spot in the top 10 safest airlines, was crowned champion at the 2025 World Airlines Awards, and has also been recognised for its punctuality, economy seats, and in-flight food.
