These trails in Alberta offer the best Rocky Mountain views with stunning waterfalls

23 July 20263 Mins Read

Crowsnest Pass is easily one of the most beautiful municipalities in Alberta. With a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains, you’ll be able to take in all the beautiful sights with the fresh air of the Rockies.

The pass is a singular collective of five towns, each with a unique history that contributes to the rich tapestry of the Rocky Mountain community. These towns include Bellevue, Blairmore, Coleman, Frank, and Hillcrest. All of these spots’ history is attributed to the coal business in the area.

After the initial boom of the industry at the beginning, residents felt drawn to the area and remained as ranchers and settlers to build these communities into what they are today.

Now, people come to visit from all over the world and see some of the sights this place has to offer. Not to mention, there are more than a few paths and trails to wander in Crowsnest Pass. We’re here to help, though, because there are more than a few spots to hike in this excellent area.

Where to go hiking in Crowsnest Pass

Frank Slide is easily one of the most historical and popular hikes you can do in the area. This 1.5 km hiking trail takes you through the rocks of the slide. Taking from half an hour to an hour, you’ll be able to learn more about the disaster that struck in 1903.

Another hike, more for seasoned hikers, is the Turtle Mountain Trail. According to All Trails, this spot is generally very easy for those with hiking experience to get to the first summit, the North Peak. Beyond that, good scrambling and route-finding skills are required, but it isn’t a highly technical route. Once you’re on the peak, however, this hike is definitely worth the views.

There’s also an easier hike you can do with an even better ending: a waterfall. Allison Creek Falls is a picturesque destination with an easy trail for the entire family. No better time to visit than the summer, but it’s also perfect for snowshoeing during the colder months.

Don’t forget the other waterfall nearby

If you’re chasing waterfalls, there’s another stunning cascade about a half-hour drive from Allison Creek Falls.

Lundbreck Falls is a stunning 39-foot waterfall, surrounded by rolling hills and open sky, fed by the Crowsnest River. Located just between Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek, this is the best place to stop while you’re in the municipality. At this spot, you don’t even have to get out of your car to enjoy the view!

Here, guests are encouraged to take it all in from the comfort of their own vehicle, on the observation deck, or even from the bottom of the falls: the splash zone. Those hoping to enter the splash zone are able to take a staircase down to the falls, but folks are encouraged to be careful as it can get a bit slippery when at the bottom.

If you’re looking to get outdoors this summer, Crowsnest Pass is going to be the perfect destination. From hiking trails to waterfalls, there’s going to be no shortage of action during your visit.
