Toronto’s first 7 p.m. sunset is around the corner

23 February 20262 Mins Read

You hear that, Toronto? It’s the sound of us finally escaping the winter blues. If you’re like me, you’ve been suffering through watching the sun go down before you’re even clocked out of work for the day, but I am here with good news: we’re about to get a little more daylight.

According to Time and Date, Toronto will go from sunset around 6:13 p.m. to an hour later at 7:15 p.m., starting on March 8, 2026.

And the good news just keeps on rolling in. By the end of March, Torontonians can soak in even more daylight with the sunset coming as late as 7:43.

All these exciting changes come as daylight saving time starts for most Canadians on March 8. What is daylight saving time? According to the Old Farmers’ Almanac, “Moving the clocks forward one hour in the spring grants us more daylight during summer evenings, while moving clocks back one hour in the fall grants us more daylight during winter mornings.”

The official time zones and DST have been regulated by the provincial, territorial, and municipal governments since 1987. While most Canadian cities experience DST, there is the exception of Yukon, most of Saskatchewan, and some locations in Quebec, northwest Ontario, and northeast B.C.

Of course, you will lose an hour of sleep when DST begins, but if you ask me, it’s a small price to pay for a little more sunlight in the afternoon.

March will also bring the first official day of spring on the 20th, so if you need even more of a reason to be excited for the month, there you have it.

Enjoy that extra sunshine, Toronto!
