It’s been 30 years since the original Toy Story was released, putting Pixar on the map as an animation studio and introducing the worlds to characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who have since become household names. In 2026, a fifth film is coming. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 arrived Tuesday, giving a brief introduction of the movie’s plot but leaving us without an explanation for how it will reconcile the ending of Toy Story 4.
In Toy Story 5 teaser trailer, Bonnie — the little girl who was gifted Andy’s toys when he went to college — gets a new toy and it’s one Woody, Buzz, and the gang are terrified of. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she’s thrilled about it. Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie’s other toys. Still, the toys seemingly view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
One thing the teaser doesn’t touch on is what Woody is doing back with his friends in Bonnie’s room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping toys given away as prizes find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie’s room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
At the very least, some things are carrying over from the previous film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie’s bedroom. In the teaser, you can see the badge attached to her shirt. Hopefully, she’s still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
