Two fan-favourite coasters at Canada’s Wonderland are getting major updates

7 April 20263 Mins Read

A butt-bruising roller coaster that has rattled the teeth of Canada’s Wonderland visitors since the park’s 1981 opening is getting a huge change this season, while another beloved coaster will get a major makeover that transforms its ride experience.

Canada’s Wonderland is set to reopen for the year in just a few weeks, on May 3, and the park is sharing new details about what is changing ahead of the 2026 season.

Among the major changes coming this year, the notoriously bumpy Mighty Canadian Minebuster will have a much smoother ride, while the inverted Flight Deck coaster (known as Top Gun from its 1995 opening until 2008) will receive its second re-theming, maintaining the aviation theme but with an old-timey daredevil twist.

Here’s what’s new at Wonderland this year.

Mighty Canadian Minebuster

Canada’s Wonderland and the Mighty Canadian Minebuster — one of the park’s original opening day attractions — are celebrating their 45th anniversary this season. But the mine train coaster’s notorious reputation as a rough ride could soon be a thing of the past, as Wonderland moves forward with the next phase in a major renovation of the aging attraction.

Wonderland has announced that a 980-foot section of the coaster is being retracked this off-season, replacing older sections with new wood to improve the ride experience.

The previous year’s upgrades were well-received by parkgoers who had, for years, been battered and jostled by the notoriously aggressive ride.

“The upgrade last year was amazing. Night and day. And I could walk and move my neck after,” wrote one commenter on Instagram.

While Wonderland enthusiasts are pleased about the change, one commenter just had to get a barb in, writing, “Generous using the word ‘smoothly’ to describe the ride that has been rattling teeth for decades.”

Flight Deck

Opened in 1995 as Top Gun, this popular coaster will be renamed The DareDeviler this season, along with a re-theme focused on early aviation meant to better align with the initial vision of the park’s Grande World Expo area.

Among the ride changes, The DareDeviler will introduce track refinements and new trains with open, vest‑style restraints. Wonderland promises the upgraded experience will deliver “a smoother, more immersive experience, featuring improved seating […] greater comfort and visibility.”

While this big change will shake up the look and feel of this portion of the park, parkgoers won’t be able to experience the updated ride until “early summer,” meaning this attraction will remain closed for opening day.

“We’re excited to breathe new life into one of our classic roller coasters,” said Heather Hill, park manager.

“With The DareDeviler, we’re elevating the thrill experience with a smoother, more comfortable ride—while AlpenFury continues to deliver the record‑breaking excitement that thrilled guests last season and will again in 2026.”

In addition to updates to rides, Wonderland has also announced a new lineup of food and attractions debuting at the park this year.
