Will There Ever Be A ‘Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld’ Season 2 on Netflix?

One of Netflix’s most stylistically unique animated series of 2024 was undoubtedly Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld. Despite high critical praise, a major award win, and a passionate core fanbase, the show’s future remains in limbo. Is Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld returning for Season 2? Probably not. Here’s what we know.

Created by Echo Wu and starring the voices of Ali Wong, Bowen Yang, and Lucy Liu, the series dropped its first 13 episodes on December 5th, 2024. The supernatural action-comedy follows a Chinese-American teen in Texas who discovers she is being hunted by a demon king and must embrace her repressed powers to survive.

The show scooped up a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and went on to earn three nominations at the Children’s & Family Emmy Awards, winning for “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation – Character Design.” The show also picked up nominations for the Annie Awards and the TCAs.

The story definitely set up more to come. The finale sees Jentry and Ed traveling directly into the Underworld to rescue a captured soul, only to find themselves surrounded by the realm’s guardians. The season ends abruptly, leaving the immediate fate of the main characters—and the larger mystery of the “Yellow Emperor”—completely unresolved.

Has Netflix renewed Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld for Season 2?

Official Renewal Status: Pending (Likely Cancelled)
Prediction: Cancelled

As of early 2026, Netflix has not officially renewed Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld for a second season. Given the length of time since its premiere (over 14 months), it is almost certainly not coming back, however.

The creator of the series has not confirmed the cancellation publicly, nor has anyone else connected to the project. The closest update we have found comes from Kal Athannassov, who served as Character Design Supervisor. In response to a fan on Instagram asking about the status of season 2 back in December 2025, he wrote, “I really hope that can happen one day!”—suggesting active production is not underway.

Furthermore, while there is nothing on the record about the future of the show, we reviewed the resumes of several key staff members. Almost all list the project in the past tense, and with those individuals having moved on to other projects or different studios entirely.

The Creator’s Plea and Fan Campaign

Shortly after release, creator Echo Wu took to Reddit to issue a “call to arms” for fans, acknowledging the uphill battle for renewal. In a candid post, Wu gave instructions on how to help:

“I know many of you are asking for more JCVTU. (I read your comments!!) So, here’s how you can help get us a season 2:

  1. We need to get the viewership UP. Way up.
  2. Tell all your friends to watch! We really do rely on word of mouth! It helps a lot!
  3. Let’s go viral! Make a dance trend! Make a meme! Social media is the modern day news outlet. I can’t stress enough how important this is for Jentry cutting through all the noise.
  4. Rewatch the show. Seriously. (Super liking and rewatching it also helps!)

I know animation is in a weird place right now, but I’m hopeful it will thrive again. And to do that, we need your help getting the word out there about Jentry. I believe in you all.”

How well did Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld perform on Netflix?

Actual renewals for animated series are exceptionally hard to come by if not part of an initial upfront order, with only a handful in Netflix’s history passing the threshold (such as Blue Eye Samurai).

The show had a slow start in the Netflix top 10s upon release, going on to rank in the TV top 10s in 7 countries and the Kids TV top 10s in 25 countries worldwide.

According to the bi-annual Netflix Engagement Reports, the series clocked 1.8M views (CVE) in its opening weeks on Netflix. It picked up 2.1M views in the first half of 2025, and slowed to 1.4M in the second half. While these numbers show a dedicated cult audience, they likely fall short of the completion rate metrics Netflix requires for a high-budget animated renewal.
