You can grab ice cream and hang out with goats at this Alberta hidden gem

28 April 20262 Mins Read

If you’re the type of person who pulls over for anything even slightly interesting on a road trip, this might be the perfect spot for you. The Grumpy Goat is a small ice cream shop in southern Alberta that mixes classic summer treats with something you definitely do not see every day: baby goats hanging right out front.

Yes, actual goats.

A simple Alberta stop that stands out

Tucked into Twin Butte just off Highway 6 near Pincher Creek, The Grumpy Goat is the kind of spot that turns “we should probably stretch our legs” into the best part of your drive.

Before you even make it inside, you’ll probably notice the goats first. They are located right out front, casually hanging around the pen like they are part of the staff.

During open hours, visitors can view the goats from outside the pen, and when it’s not busy, staff may even bring guests inside for a closer look at the adorable animals.

Once you head inside, you’ll find a variety of menu items to satisfy all your summer cravings, including soft serve, homemade waffle cones, slushies, and mini doughnuts. And just to clear up the most important detail, no, the ice cream is not goat milk-based.

Part of what makes The Grumpy Goat stand out is how genuinely local it feels. It is not trying to be a big tourist attraction or overly curated experience, but somehow is one of those places that people end up talking about long after they visit.

I actually came across it while driving back from a camping trip over the summer, and it ended up making the drive way better than I thought it would be.

If you’re heading out to Waterton or planning a trip to southern Alberta this summer, The Grumpy Goat should definitely be on your itinerary. It’s safe to say this spot is pretty goated for a summer road trip.

The Grumpy Goat

When: Open Friday to Monday
Time: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
