Your complete guide to back-to-school shopping in Calgary

27 August 20253 Mins Read

Back-to-school season is upon us, and that means it’s time for a little back-to-school shopping. Hey, you deserve a cute outfit to wear for 8 a.m. lectures and late-night study sessions, and adorable stationery will definitely help you stay on top of your homework, right?

Whatever’s on your list, you can shop local and support the community in the process. That sounds like money well-spent! Here are eight stores you’ll want to check out for clothes to supplies, and everything in between.

This trendy store has men’s and women’s clothing and accessories, complete with crisp new jeans and boldly patterned wears that are sure to draw an eye or two (in a good way, of course). Visit any one of the three locations in Inglewood, Kensington, or on 17th Ave.

Where: 1227 9th Ave. SE, 112 10th St. NW, or 940 17th Ave. SW

This semester, old is the new new. Shop tons of vintage shirts, jackets, sports merch, denim, and more at two locations in Calgary, and discover unique pieces to wear with pride when you hit the halls.

Where: 720 17th Ave. SW and Chinook Centre Level 2 — 6455 Macleod Trl.

This curated bricks-and-mortar store features hand-selected products that prioritize quality, usefulness, masculine style, and a competitive price point, with a focus on delivering great value for your dollar. Visit Stuff in person to shop brands such as Duer Performance, Scotch & Soda, Ten Tree, Salt & Stone, and more.

Where: 709 11th Ave. SW

Recess describes itself as “an antidote to our fast-paced, overly digitized, and hyper-connected world” and sells the most aesthetically pleasing (and functional!) stationery tools. If a sleek new pen and chic notebook don’t inspire you to be the best student you can be, I don’t know what will.

Where: 1333 9th Ave. SE

Located in the heart of 17th Avenue, Reid’s Stationers has some of the city’s best selections of writing instruments and stationery, along with other odds and ends like greeting cards, decor, and party supplies.

Where: 710 17th Ave. SW

This store may be best known for its comfortable outdoor casual wear, but on top of that, it’s a great place to shop for bags and backpacks. And since they’re designed with an active lifestyle in mind, you know your purchase will readily withstand whatever the school year throws your way.

Where: 1119 9th Ave. SE

If you’re furnishing a dorm or apartment, you don’t have to break the bank. Ella Grace Marketplace is a 12,000-square-foot store with an incredible and diverse range of vintage ware, antiques, collectibles, upcycled pieces, and more. Be sure to give yourself plenty of browsing time!

Where: 7271 12th St. SE

With artisan-crafted homewares, ethical slow fashion, and heirloom-quality goods, you’ll find a little bit of everything at Faire Living. Whether you’re looking for kitchenware or seeking the perfect piece to complete your capsule wardrobe, you can count on your purchase being built to last.

Where: 1226 9th Ave. SE
