Drag queens, storytimes, bingo, and performances galore: it can only mean one thing… Edmonton’s Drag Festival must be around the corner.
You guessed right, the Edmonton Drag Festival is on its way, slated to take over downtown Edmonton from May 29 to 31. These three days will be filled with extravagant drag activities, some of which will feature huge Drag Race names like Brooke Lynn Hytes, the host of Canada’s Drag Race.
If you’re ready, don’t hesitate to mark these dates on your calendar. This will be a colourful weekend you won’t want to miss.
What to expect
This drag festival takes over three days of the weekend, and each day has a different theme.
Friday is Queeriosity, taking place from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. This will be a talent showcase with a variety of different drag artists, including, but not limited to, Girlfriend Experience, King Molasses, and Jada Shada Hudson. DJ Lady Luck will also be making an appearance, presumably for the queer dance party (shout out to Evolution Wonderlounge for introducing me to the amazing DJ).
Drag Extravaganza will take over on Saturday. From noon to 10 p.m., downtown Edmonton will be eating up all things drag. This day, you can see stars like Van Goth, Brooke Lynn Hytes, and our very own local Melinda Verga. There will also be a red carpet, drag bingo, tea time, and many more activities for you to get involved in.
Finally, on Sunday, Cultural Pride will take the stage from noon to 8 p.m. There will be a cultural showcase, not to mention a Metis kitchen party, alongside a ballroom workshop you can vogue along to.
If you’re looking for the meet and greets, they will be taking place all three days over the festival. Tickets start at $39.99 each, and all meet and greet tickets, as well as VIP tickets, will be available for pickup at the festival’s cashier booth through the weekend of the festival.
You can purchase tickets online on the Edmonton Drag Festival website for meet and greet tickets. There, you can find a full list of everyone who will be having meetings over the weekend.
If you consider yourself a Drag Race fan or even just a local drag supporter, this is a must-visit festival. You won’t regret stepping into this extravaganza.
