Edmonton Expo is returning for another year of this pop culture celebration, featuring everything from comics and anime to gaming and cosplay over the course of a whole September weekend.
Edmonton Expo is the city’s most popular and premier comic and entertainment convention. With special guests, large attractions, meet-and-greet opportunities, and more, this convention lights up the Edmonton Expo Centre with a geeky and nerdy charm.
For three whole days, get ready to be immersed in everything entertainment-related for the weekend of a lifetime.
Everything to know about this year’s Edmonton Expo
When is Edmonton Expo?
This upcoming comic and pop culture convention will be taking place from Friday, Sept. 18, to Sunday, Sept. 20, this year.
You’ll be able to explore from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday (with a special preview at 2 p.m. for VIP, Ultimate, and 3-Day pass holders who purchase in advance), 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Where does the convention take place?
As usual, this convention will be taking place at the Edmonton Expo Centre, located centrally in the city.
What’s the best way to get to the convention?
According to the centre itself, the Edmonton Expo Centre is easily accessible by car, bus, or LRT.
For those taking the LRT, the Coliseum LRT Station is connected to the Edmonton Expo Centre via an outdoor pedway. From here, folks will also be able to access the Coliseum Transit Centre.
Is there parking on-site?
There are over 3,800 parking stalls available on-site, with paid parking in effect. The standard cost per vehicle is $16.50, with only debit and credit accepted as payment.
Are people allowed to dress up?
Folks are more than allowed to dress up; in fact, it’s very much encouraged in the spirit of the event. There are a couple of things to keep in mind when putting on your cosplay, however.
The Edmonton Expo will reject any costume at any time and for any reason if it’s not appropriate. As stated on their website, the absence of clothing or a costume is not itself a costume, meaning nudity is not allowed. This means costumed attendees are required to have an opaque fabric covering appropriate areas of the body.
If your cosplay comes with a prop, you’ll want to check out the convention’s prop policy before attending, as well as prepare to check out the Prop Check Desk before exploring the rest of the fest.
What is there to do during the expo?
There are loads of panels, activities, meet and greets, and autograph opportunities during the Edmonton Expo. The exact schedule has not been released yet, but we can expect lots of fan interactions and Q&As coming our way.
In addition to the events within the expo, there will be a massive Artist Alley to explore with stunning fandom art, as well as the ability to commission artists for a one-of-a-kind piece.
What celebrities will be making appearances?
As of Aug. 19, there are loads of celebrity guests making an appearance at this upcoming expo. This includes names like John Cena, the WWE legend known for his role in Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad.
If you’re a fan of the hit TV show The Boys, there’s also the opportunity to meet Karl Urban or Erin Moriarty, who plays Starlight. Or, maybe you’ll want to see Ron Perlman, Hellboy himself.
For a full list of all the celebrities coming, you can visit the Edmonton Expo website for all the details.
Are Edmonton Expo tickets still available?
Tickets are still available for purchase online and, in fact, there’s actually advanced pricing available until Sept. 3.
There are three different tiers for three-day passes you can buy: 3-Day, Ultimate, and VIP. While 3-Day offers you admission and access to the special preview on Friday, the other two tiers offer a whole lot more perks like exclusive merch, VIP lounge access, priority access to main theatre presentations, and more.
For three-day passes, the tier pricing begins at $69, and the Ultimate tier has already sold out.
