Metro Vancouver’s $2 outdoor pool sits on the forest edge and it’s open through September

8 September 20264 Mins Read

If you haven’t spent an afternoon exploring Coquitlam’s Mundy Park yet this summer, consider this your sign. In addition to some top-notch forested trails, there’s an award-winning outdoor pool right at the forest’s edge that is open through the first week of October, so you still have plenty of time to get some laps in!

What to know before you head to the pool

Recognized by two major provincial awards, the park’s aquatic facility got a slew of big upgrades last year, including a renovated lap pool and dive tank, a new ramp, a new beachside leisure pool, an expanded deck, and a lazy river.

How many lanes are there?

There are eight 25-metre lanes total at the lap pool, as well as a leisure pool for those who want a more casual dip. As of May 2026, there’s also an updated dive stand, a climbing wall, expanded lawn seating, and an inflatable obstacle course.

Are there any change rooms or washrooms?

In terms of amenities, the aquatic facility has fully accessible, universal change rooms and washrooms (open year-round), making it easier for everyone to enjoy this prime Metro Vancouver spot.

Is there a heated pool?

Yes, there is a warming pool available on-site that’s fully wheelchair-accessible.

Can I drop in, or is advance registration required?

Between Sept. 8 and Oct. 4, the pools are drop-in only. As the weather cools, we expect it’ll be even easier to snag a lane!

The $2 drop-in fee makes it an ideal outdoor pool to have on your radar.

During its main operating season (late May through Labour Day), you can register online for a weekend swim up to 48 hours in advance.

Are there any lifeguards on duty?

Note that while lifeguards are on duty throughout the facility, all children under the age of seven must be accompanied by an adult in the water.

When is the outdoor pool open?

The Mundy Park leisure pool is now open daily from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Oct. 4, so you still have plenty of time to enjoy some outdoor swimming before the season officially comes to a close.

The lap pool operates from 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on weekends.

What else can I do at Mundy Park?

Mundy Park is Coquitlam’s treasure trove of outdoor adventures. A fantastic 5.5 km multi-use pathway circles the park, which can be completed on foot in about an hour. Within this route, there are shorter walks along the interior trails leading around Mundy Lake and to the viewing benches at Lost Lake.

On the west side of the park, you’ll find ball diamonds, a nine-hole disc golf course, a lacrosse box, a playground, and a sheltered picnic area.

A fenced off-leash area is available on the west end of Mariner Way, offering dogs the chance to run free. However, all the trails at Mundy Park are considered off-leash from dawn to 10 a.m., if you’re keen on a morning walk with your pup.

Keep your eye out for plenty of birds and insects inside the park’s lush tree habitat, which supports species like owls, butterflies, bats, and occasionally deer and black bears.

Finally, there’s a designated nesting beach for endangered Western Painted Turtles at the south end of Lost Lake that turtle enthusiasts will want to check out.
