If a regular haunted house isn’t quite enough to get your heart pumping, there’s a much more intense Halloween experience coming to a southern Alberta railway this October. Aspen Crossing’s Train of Terror is returning, and it’s Canada’s only moving haunted house. The experience kicks off with three different haunted mazes before you climb aboard the train for a ride filled with scares.
If you’re brave enough to give it a shot, here’s everything you need to know before you go.
What to expect at the Train of Terror
What is the Train of Terror?
The Train of Terror takes place at Aspen Crossing, just outside Mossleigh, Alta., and centres around a series of haunted attractions followed by a spooky train ride.
The experience begins with three haunted mazes, each with its own scares, before you head onto the train for the next part of the night. Once you’re on the train, the ride itself becomes the final haunted maze, which Aspen Crossing says is designed to be the scariest haunting of the night.
How scary is the experience?
According to Aspen Crossing, performers may touch, grab, and follow guests, and can even take you through different parts of the attractions. Organizers also note that actors may separate guests from their group during the experience, so you could find yourself facing a scare alone.
You’ll also encounter physical obstacles throughout the space where you’ll need to climb, slide, or crawl through.
How long is the experience?
The entire Train of Terror experience takes approximately two hours. It includes three maze haunts and a one-and-a-half-hour train ride.
Is this an 18+ experience?
Train of Terror is strictly for adults, and guests should remember to bring a valid government-issued ID, as staff check IDs before entry. According to Aspen Crossing, anyone under 18 will be denied entry and will not receive a refund, so make sure everyone in your group meets the age requirements before booking.
Will food and drinks be available?
Food and drinks are available for purchase before and during the Train of Terror experience. According to Aspen Crossing, there will be three bars to visit throughout the evening, including one before the first maze, another when you board, and the last at the end of the excursion.
Food is also available at the station and on the train. Outside alcohol is not permitted.
Can I dress up?
Halloween costumes are more than welcome at the experience; just keep in mind you’ll be moving through obstacles, so choose a costume that won’t restrict your movement.
When is the Train of Terror happening?
You can catch the Train of Terror throughout October, with the 2026 season running on Fridays and Saturdays from Oct. 1 to Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, with Thursday, Oct. 1 added as the opening night.
Where is the Train of Terror?
The Train of Terror takes place at Aspen Crossing, which is located 1 km west of Mossleigh, Alta., just off Highway 24. The railway is about 35 km southeast of Calgary, which is roughly a 45-minute drive.
Where should I park when I get there?
Free parking is available at Aspen Crossing. The main parking lot is located between the Aspen Crossing Tavern and the train station, so you can park there before heading over for check-in.
How much are tickets?
Tickets start at $66.66 per person, and prices increase on select nights. For example, Halloween night is priced at $118, so the exact cost depends on the date and departure time you choose.
If your desired night is sold out, Aspen Crossing offers standby spots. You can show up at the property and wait to see if another guest doesn’t arrive, leaving their spot available for purchase. Although there is no guarantee you’ll get a spot, Aspen Crossing recommends having a backup plan in case there isn’t an opening.
What else do I need to know before I go?
There are a few things worth noting before you head out to the event.
You must sign a waiver before you’re allowed into the attraction, and Aspen Crossing recommends completing it ahead of time to make check-in easier.
Since the attraction involves tackling obstacles, you’ll want to wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes.
The experience will also go ahead in rain or snow, and according to Aspen Crossing, the train cars can get cold, so check the forecast and dress for the weather.
No refunds are available for missed departures, so allow plenty of time to park and check in before your scheduled train.
