If you love shopping local, you’re going to be excited about this one. Makers is officially opening a new location at The Core in downtown Calgary this June, and it’s basically a curated collection of local businesses and handmade finds, all under one roof.
It’s the kind of place where every shelf feels different, and you never know what you’re going to find!
More than just your average store
According to Makers, the concept behind the store has always been simple yet impactful: to bring together small, independent makers and give them a space where their products can be seen, supported, and purchased in person.
The store carries everything from home goods and gifts to accessories, art, and seasonal finds, creating a shopping experience that feels more personal than your typical retail shop.
And clearly, Calgarians are showing up for it. According to Makers, since the beginning of 2026, the company has generated nearly $1,000,000 in sales, underscoring the strong support for local shopping when it’s made accessible.
One of the best parts about the Makers concept is that vendors keep 100$ of their sales revenue. Instead of giving up a percentage of every purchase, local artisans rent a display space inside the store and directly benefit from every purchase that’s made.
Makers currently has three locations across Calgary at CF Market Mall, SouthCentre Mall, and Cross Iron Mills. The new downtown location will give makers exposure to hundreds of daily visitors, creating even more opportunities for local businesses to connect with shoppers right in the heart of the city.
At a time when supporting local feels more important than ever, Makers has found a way to make it easy and genuinely enjoyable. It’s become a real way for small businesses to grow, connect with new customers, and build something sustainable in the city. And if Makers’ success so far is any indication, this latest opening will be a big win for Calgary’s creative community.
