Locked Library is back for another round of action at the Edmonton Public Library this fall, featuring an all-new haunted escape room experience.
For one night only in October, the Edmonton Public Library is inviting folks to team up and solve a series of puzzles across the four floors of the Stanley A. Milner location after hours. This upcoming iteration of Locked Library is taking a spooky turn, with teams acting as investigators who’ll need to unravel a series of small-town hauntings.
Get ready, because this escape room experience is going to be filled with “mystery, mayhem and spine-tingling stories.”
Everything to know about Locked Library: Ghost Stories
When is Locked Library: Ghost Stories?
This upcoming event will be coming up Saturday, Oct. 24, and will take place from 8 to 10 p.m.
Where does the event take place?
You’ll be heading to Stanley A. Milner Library in downtown Edmonton for this escape room experience.
Transit, parking and after-hours entry
The Edmonton Public Library encourages participants to take transit for this upcoming Locked Library event. The Churchill LRT Station is a short walk away from the library, as well as several major bus routes.
For those driving, the closest option is the Library Parkade, which is located below the library and Citadel Theatre. Here, you’ll have direct access into Milner Library on Level P2.
The library notes that P2 entrance doors will only be unlocked from 7 to 8 p.m. You can exit through the P2 doors into the parkade after the game, but keep in mind you will not be able to re-enter the building once you’ve exited.
There are more downtown underground and surface lots available, and you can even check the City of Edmonton Parking Map in advance for hours and rates.
The library’s main entrance is not going to be used for this event, with participants being invited to use the South Entrance (located on 101A Avenue and 100th Street), or the parkade entrance on P2 of the Library Parkade instead.
If you arrive after 8 p.m., you must enter through the South Entrance.
Late arrival and what players need
Those who arrive after 8 p.m. are still welcome to play, but please note that all teams will have a recorded start time of 8 p.m. regardless of your arrival time.
Because the game includes scannable QR codes with multimedia content hosted on websites, every team will need to have at least one smartphone or tablet to help complete the puzzles. The Edmonton Public Library’s Wi-Fi will be available for those who need it.
Anything else you’ll possibly need during the game is included in the package your team receives when you check in.
Is there a prize?
The team who escapes the fastest will receive a “small token to commemorate their success.”
Food and drink rules
The Second Cup location within the library will be open during the event for those wanting food or drink on-site.
You can bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages to this event, but the library wants participants to keep their surroundings in mind. As for alcoholic beverages, you will not be allowed to bring them, nor are you permitted to consume any on the premises.
How much are tickets?
Tickets are available on the Edmonton Public Library’s website, with early-bird pricing starting at $30 plus fees per person. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, regular admission will be in effect for $40 plus fees per person.
Keep in mind, it’s suggested that folks register as a team, with the recommended team size being between two and four players.
