Intergenerational households are on the rise in Canada, as families find value in staying together under the same roof.
Over the last few decades, households where parents, adult children and their own kids are all living together – as well as multiple families sharing a home – has jumped by 45 per cent.
For some people, these types of communal arrangements are more valuable in easing isolation and the expense of housing, aiding with aging, and caregiving, bringing them into closer proximity with friends, family and those they connect with over shared values. For others, it’s a matter of necessity, and might be a source of further stress.
