Dunkin’ Donuts is coming back to Canada and here’s what to know

12 May 20262 Mins Read

Looks like Canadians will soon run on Dunkin’ too, as the coffee and donut chain is planning a major comeback to Canada.

Canadian restaurant franchisor Foodtastic announced on Tuesday that it will open hundreds of Dunkin’ locations across the country.

“We are committed to growing the Dunkin’ brand thoughtfully to meet the needs of Canadian guests and communities,” reads a statement from Peter Mammas, Foodtastic founder and CEO.

Dunkin’ (formerly Dunkin’ Donuts until a rebrand in 2019) was founded in 1950 and is the largest coffee and donut brand in the United States.

According to the franchisor, the first Dunkin’ location in Canada is expected to open in late 2026 or early 2027. Foodtastic will manage market development, franchisee recruitment, and operations in Canada.

The Dunkin’ menu will feature a wide range of hot and iced coffees, espresso beverages, teas, sandwiches, snacks, and, of course, donuts.

“Dunkin’s international footprint continues to thrive, so we are excited to bring this iconic brand to Canada through a strong, like-minded partner,” reads a statement from Michael Haley, president of International at Inspire Brands, the U.S.-based parent company of Dunkin’.

Dunkin’ used to be in Canada for decades. Its popularity peaked in the ’90s, with a strong presence in Quebec. The last few stores shuttered in 2018.

Foodtastic says that for over 75 years, Dunkin’ has been a global leader in coffee and donuts, with more than 14,200 restaurants in nearly 40 markets.

Details on the first Canadian location, market rollout, and franchise opportunities will be shared as development progresses, the franchisor added.

Other brands under Foodtastic’s portfolio are Second Cup, Freshii, and Pita Pit.

Are you excited about Dunkin’s return to Canada? Let us know in the comments.
