Explore the haunted history of Edmonton with these exciting ghost tours

17 August 20264 Mins Read

Edmonton Ghost Tours is hosting ghost tours at locations all across the city throughout the year to tell the stories of local hauntings, murders, and mysteries.

From ghostly walks in Old Strathcona to uncovering the urban legends around the University of Alberta, these ghost tours in Edmonton are a great way to spend the evening. If you want to learn more about the city and you’re fascinated by the strange and unusual, these events are an interesting and intriguing way to explore more of Edmonton.

There are six different tours to choose from:

  • Old Strathcona Ghost Tour
  • University of Alberta History and Haunted Hike
  • Streetcar and Cocktails Tour
  • Haunted Trolley Tour
  • Mount Pleasant Cemetery Historical Walk
  • Haunted Pub Tour

Ready to uncover the mysteries lurking in the city? We sure are, so here are the details to know ahead of attending one of these spooky gatherings.

What to know about Edmonton Ghost Tours

Old Strathcona Ghost Tour

One of their tours includes the Old Strathcona Ghost Tour.

This one-hour tour takes you to the Strathcona Hotel, the Princess Theatre, and the Strathcona High School, as well as other buildings, houses, and shops that have ghosts, murders, or some kind of mystery. According to Edmonton Ghost Tours, all these stories are true stories that come from area residents and business owners. Veteran storyteller Nadine Bailey will be the one telling these stories.

You’ll be able to catch this experience at 7 p.m. on specific weekdays for $20. The schedule is available on Edmonton Ghost Tours’ website.

University of Alberta Ghost Tour

The University of Alberta tour is just over an hour long. This series shares stories about ghosts like the little boy at The Rutherford House and the scientist who is still seen walking the halls of the Power Plant. You can catch this tour for $25 every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 p.m. until Oct. 1, and then the schedule will include Mondays and Tuesdays until Nov. 5.

Haunted Trolley Ghost Tour

They’re also hosting tours on Edmonton’s streetcar: Haunted Trolley Tour.

As the sun sets, you’ll be able to hear the horrible history of the area and some of Edmonton’s most spooky and gruesome ghost stories. For this tour, hop aboard the High Level Streetcar and breeze across High Level Bridge and throughout Old Strathcona. During this tour, you’ll actually get the chance to stop in the centre of the bridge for photo opportunities as well; how cool?

The Haunted Trolley Tours will only be available on select dates during October. Tickets haven’t been released yet, so keep an eye out for those coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Streetcar and Cocktails Tour

If you’re wanting something this August, the Edmonton Streetcar and Cocktails Tour is perfect for those 18 and above who still want to hop aboard the trolley.

For $55, your ticket will include two handcrafted cocktails and a scenic ride on the Edmonton streetcar while you learn its history. Here, you’ll get to experience the great views of Old Strathcona, Edmonton’s river valley, North Saskatchewan River, and the Alberta Legislature building.

Haunted Pub Tour

During this pub tour, you can join in and visit some of Old Strathcona’s most iconic and haunted pubs on Whyte Avenue. While you hear about Old Strathcona history and mysteries, you can take a sip from any brew of your choosing. This is an event for those 18 and over only.

Although the schedule hasn’t been released for this year yet, tickets will be $40 and do not include any food or drink.

Mount Pleasant Cemetery History and Haunted Hike

The schedule hasn’t been released for this hike, either, but this tour takes a step away from ghosts and toward the historical side of things.

This stroll through Mount Pleasant Cemetery invites folks to learn about the many people through history who helped shape early-day Strathcona and Edmonton. From local immigrants and politicians to murderers, you’ll learn more and more about Strathcona and how it became the way it is today.
