Rio de Janeiro’s hotel market recorded its highest August revenue per available room since the 2016 Olympics, preliminary CoStar data showed.
Hotels in the city reported occupancy of 72.7% in August 2026, down 0.1% year over year. Average daily rate increased 16.4% to BRL841.91, while revenue per available room rose 16.3% to BRL612.29.
The market’s highest occupancy level of the month occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 19, when occupancy reached 88.2%. The increase coincided with the CONMEBOL Libertadores match between Flamengo and Cruzeiro at Maracanã Stadium. The average daily rate that night was BRL825.44, and revenue per available room was BRL728.40.
Rio de Janeiro recorded its highest daily average rate and revenue per available room on Saturday, Aug. 15, during Festival Medio y Medio. Average daily rate reached BRL952.24, and revenue per available room totaled BRL756.51. Occupancy that night was 79.8%.
