The Calgary Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (Sept. 15)

15 September 20264 Mins Read

The Calgary Group Chat is back, and there’s a lot to talk about this week. From the X Games announcing its first-ever Canadian stop in the city to a giant bounce house popping up at CrossIron Mills, the city has definitely been keeping things interesting.

Whether you missed something while scrolling, need a few more new things to add to your plans, or just want to know what everyone in Calgary has been talking about, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s jump right into everything going down this week.

Calgary is getting the X Games for the first time ever

Calgary is officially hosting the 2027 Winter X Games, one of the biggest events in action sports, for the first time ever. If you’ve never heard of it, the X Games brings together top athletes from around the world to compete in sports like skiing and snowboarding. The Canadian debut is happening at Canada Olympic Park from Feb. 19 to 21, 2027, with competitions throughout the weekend, plus X Fest, featuring food, activities, and live music from Levity and Steve Aoki.

A horror movie sequel is filming around Calgary right now

Another horror movie sequel is currently being filmed around Calgary. Prank Night 2: Repetition began filming in the city and surrounding areas on Sept. 14, 2026, and is scheduled to continue until Oct. 9, 2026, according to ACTRA Alberta.

The movie follows 2026’s Prank Night, which was also filmed in Alberta, although details about the sequel’s plot and cast are still under wraps.

A massive inflatable bounce park just popped up at CrossIron Mills

If you didn’t get a chance to check out the Royal Duck Bounce House pop-up at Marlborough Mall this summer, but you were hoping to go, then you’re in luck. The Royal Duck, which bills itself as the world’s largest and tallest bounce house, is filled with giant inflatable castles, slides, obstacle courses, and interactive photo ops.

It’s set up in the Entry 2 parking lot at CrossIron Mills until Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026, with tickets starting at $28.99 per person. And yes, adults can bounce too, so you don’t have to bring a kid as an excuse.

There are only a couple more weekends left to enjoy Calgary’s River Hall

If you’ve been wanting to check out River Hall, now is the time to go because its season wraps up on Sept. 27, 2026.  The riverside hangout will feature live music, local food and drinks, pop-ups, and other events at 311 8th St. SW. The space is open daily, with programming running throughout the week and into the weekends.

A new Calgary neighbourhood is bringing a little European charm to the city

A new community is taking shape in southeast Calgary, inspired by European-style neighbourhoods. Nostalgia Townlet features European-inspired architecture, different home styles, and a focus on nature and shared space. The idea is to create a slower-paced community for people of all generations. The development is described as a first-of-its-kind community in Canada, and its grand opening is happening Sept. 19, 2026.

And that’s the Calgary Group Chat for this week. Hopefully we’ve caught you up on whatever you may have missed around the city.

We’ll be back next week with another Calgary catch-up, so you know where to find us when there’s more to talk about.

Chat next week!
