U.S. Skier Lindsey Vonn Sparks Concerns After Multiple Surgeries

14 March 20264 Mins Read

Olympic skiing legend Lindsey Vonn is slowly returning to physical activity after undergoing multiple surgeries following a devastating crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics. But her latest recovery update has sparked concern among some fans who fear she may be pushing herself too soon.

The 41-year-old skier shared a video on Instagram showing herself pedaling carefully on a stationary bike while recovering from serious injuries. In the clip, Vonn’s left leg is still bandaged as she slowly cycles for a short period.

“Guys…. I’m biking!! Starting with 5 minutes… making progress one day at a time 💪🏻,” Vonn wrote in the caption.

The short workout marks a small milestone in her rehabilitation after a frightening accident that left her with multiple fractures and required several surgeries to repair her leg.

Lindsey Vonn’s Rehab After Severe Olympic Crash

Vonn’s recovery journey began after a horrifying crash during the women’s downhill final at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy on Feb. 8. Just 13 seconds into her run, she clipped a gate and crashed hard on the course, prompting emergency responders to airlift her to a hospital.

Doctors later confirmed she suffered a complex tibia fracture in her left leg, along with additional injuries that required several operations in both Italy and the United States.

At one point, the damage was so severe that doctors worried she might lose her leg due to compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition caused by swelling and pressure that cuts off blood flow to muscles and nerves.

Surgeons performed multiple procedures to stabilize her leg and relieve the pressure caused by the swelling. The skier has since been documenting her long and painful rehabilitation process, sharing moments of both progress and struggle with fans online.

While many supporters praised Vonn’s determination, some followers expressed concern in the comment section of her post. Several people suggested that rest might be more important so soon after such a serious injury.

One user wrote, “Am I the only one that is like it’s OK to take rest? I absolutely admire the dedication however on a physiological standpoint I think there are time in places for this.”

Another commenter warned that pushing too quickly might slow down the healing process, saying they hoped the activity was recommended by doctors.

“I just hope you don’t hurt the healing process it’s not like you’re going back to the Olympics any time soon,” the person wrote.

Other fans with arthritis also shared their personal experiences, explaining that rest and recovery were crucial after major injuries.

Vonn later responded directly to the concerns, explaining that the gentle cycling is part of her medical rehabilitation plan rather than an attempt to rush back to competition.

“The point is not that I’m pushing myself but that I need to get muscles firing and range of motion so that nothing scars down,” Vonn wrote in reply to one comment.

“If you don’t do the work your body will freeze and it will be very very difficult to get back.”

She also reassured followers that her focus right now is simply healing and strengthening her body.

“The only thing I’m doing right now is taking care of my body. There is a reason I have come back from injuries, I listen to my body and I put in the work.”

Vonn’s injury came during a dramatic comeback season for the decorated skier. After spending years away from competition and even skiing with a partial knee replacement, she had returned to the slopes hoping to compete again at the Olympics.

Earlier in the season, Vonn even won the opening downhill race of the World Cup, showing that she could still compete at the highest level.

However, the crash at the Olympics abruptly ended that momentum and forced her into one of the toughest recoveries of her career.

In addition to the fractures in her leg, Vonn previously revealed that the injury required multiple surgeries and left her with metal screws placed in her leg.

Despite the setbacks, the Olympic medalist has made it clear that she is determined to keep moving forward.

For now, the five-minute bike ride may seem small. But for an athlete who nearly lost her leg only weeks ago, it represents a meaningful sign of progress.

And if Vonn’s career has shown anything, it is that resilience has always been part of her story.
