Toronto’s been killing it lately when it comes to global rankings, everything from steakhouses to universities and must-try World Cup dishes. So, it’s no surprise that the city’s also getting major attention from tourists.
And now, a new ranking from GuruWalk has named Toronto the top city in the world for solo travellers! The platform connects travellers with independent tour guides (aka ‘gurus’), and 50.5% of Toronto bookings made through GuruWalk over the past year were from solo travellers, the highest share of any city analyzed. Most notably, no other Canadian or U.S. city appeared on the top-50 list.
For this ranking, the company looked at bookings recorded on its platform between June 2025 and June 2026. The methodology was fairly specific: 150 cities with the highest total booking volume worldwide were analyzed during that period, so the list only included destinations with a significant level of tourist activity. Then, for each of those cities, the platform calculated the percentage of bookings made by a single traveller. Toronto came out on top, putting the 6ix ahead of major international destinations like São Paulo, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and Seoul.
In its write-up, GuruWalk pointed to Toronto’s diversity and iconic neighbourhoods as part of the city’s appeal, noting that areas like Kensington Market, the Distillery District and Chinatown can feel like entirely different worlds just minutes apart!
“Perhaps that is why more than half of those who book a free tour in Toronto do so alone, making this city the number one destination in this ranking of top destinations for the solo traveller,” the platform noted.
You can find the full list here. And the platform’s on point: there are tons of solo-friendly ways to experience the city, from walkable neighbourhoods that make for a great summer adventure to a pod-style hotel in the middle of downtown that’s perfect for solo travellers and budget-conscious guests alike.
