Over 17,000 orchids are on full display at this indoor spring-like paradise in Niagara

20 March 20262 Mins Read

It’s the first day of spring, and it feels anything but that. It’s rainy, gloomy, cold, and despite predictions of an early spring, it feels a lot like winter on March 20. But what if I told you there’s a place not too far from Toronto where you can enjoy the beauty and aroma of gorgeous spring flowers? Let’s take a trip to Niagara Parks’ Botanical Gardens and its floral showhouse.

About two hours away from Toronto are the Botanical Gardens in Niagara, Ont. Here you’ll find 99 acres of seasonal blooms and stunning overflowing gardens.

According to the Botanical Gardens, visitors will find peaceful walking trails that lead through its many gardens, including the arboretum, which showcases “one of Canada’s finest tree collections.”

In addition to all the wonderful blooms and houses is the Niagara Parks Floral Showhouse. Currently, a stunningly unique variety of orchids has taken over the indoor space, originating from all over the world.

Now, until April 26, all are welcome to enjoy the wonderful blooms at the Orchid Show. “Wander through an uplifting palette of blues, yellows and violets, where over 17,000 Phalaenopsis orchids take centre stage among fresh spring companions including daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, primula, cineraria, pansies and ferns,” shares Niagara Parks.

“Let the colours and fragrances of spring wash over you, lifting your spirits and refreshing your energy after winter’s long pause.” That sounds more than delightful, especially this time of year.

The Floral Showhouse has been an important addition to the Botanical Gardens since it first opened in November 1946. According to Niagara Parks, the north and south houses were added in 1951, and in June 1980, the front reception and gift shop opened. This space featured a large glass-enclosed ceiling permitting horticulturalists to grow large palms and other tropical trees.

Fast forward to today, and the Floral Showhouse is home to several beautiful exhibits throughout the year.

Entry to the Floral Showhouse is $8.50 per adult and $5.50 per child. Children two and under are free.

You don’t have to wait until the weather clears up to visit the Botanical Gardens in Niagara.

When: Every day from 6 a.m. to midnight
Where: 2565 Niagara Parkway, Niagara Falls, Ont.
