The ultimate global BBQ guide for your summer World Cup watch parties, Canada Reviews

18 June 20262 Mins Read

We’ve got no spare time for boring BBQ. Between the World Cup matches and the summer heat, we’re taking Dad’s favourite feast on a trip around the world. Chefs Anthony Rose and Nuit Regular sampled  ribs from Wuxi spareribs to Argentine asado. Consider this your official guide to global grilling.

Chef Anthony’s winner

El Inka, 21 St. Clair Ave. E., Seco A La Norteña, $36
Between the corn beer and the cilantro sauce, this was the most interesting dish.
The Verdict: Anthony was floored by the execution: “This is a whole complex dish.” Nuit was equally impressed by the presentation.

Chef Nuit’s winner

TTT july vos

Vos Restaurante, 847 College St., Asado de Tira, $45
The judges loved the simplicity of olive oil and sea salt.
The Verdict: Anthony liked the rare cut: “You don’t see this other than at Argentinian places.” Nuit was a big fan of the chimichurri-style finish.

Jerk Reactions

TTT july the real jerk

The Real Jerk, 842 Gerrard St. E., Specialty Jerk Ribs, $34
The judges were impressed but wanted more of that signature Caribbean fire.
The Verdict: “It has a little heat … but it needs more of the flavour,” Nuit noted, while Anthony felt the jerk essence was missing.

Bone Appétit

TTT july smoque n bones

SmoQue N’ Bones, 869 Queen St. W., Pork Side Ribs, $26
The texture here was a standout, hitting that sweet spot between tender and juicy.
The Verdict: Anthony praised the technical skill, however, both judges felt a deeper marinade was needed.

Soy Division

TTT july lee chen asian bistro

Lee Chen Asian Bistro, 813 Yonge St., Wuxi Spareribs, $27.99
The judges felt that the spices overpowered the flavour of the ribs.
The Verdict: “The sauce tastes mainly of five-spice,” Nuit observed. Although they enjoyed the fun idea of the dish, it didn’t quite land.

Grillin’ Me Softly

TTT july seoul gamjatang

Seoul Gamjatang, 475 Yonge St., LA Galbi, $36.99
This plate nearly took the whole competition.
The Verdict: “This might be my favourite,” Nuit exclaimed during the tasting. Anthony agreed, noting the subtleness of the flavours.
